Untouched rum. Great smell when I opened it, reeaaaaally good once I put some lemon juice and some cane sugar in it.
Probably great when spiced for a few months. Rich banana, nut and a hint of molasses. If you drink rum and coke this is a very fine choice, not top heavy and flu of flavour.
I enjoy the mezan rums very much but not this one! Such an overpowering plastic and burned rubber taste, try one of the other mezan rums they are all winners.
Ignore the colour. This rum has bags of flavour. From the minute you unscrew the cap it smells like mashed bananas and the palate is plasticy, with rich banana, nut and a hint of molasses.
The colour really disguises the quality this rum has. This is no ordinary golden rum. It has to be tried to be believed.
Nothing else like it in this price range. If it is aged for so long why has it so little colour? What wood is it aged in?
Mezan Vintages Sell Sheet. Official Mezan Website. Jamaica X. The finish is still pretty short but as a Jamaican sipper its not bad at the price.
It definitely gives you a premium rum and cola. The rich deep fruity flavours and funk come shining through giving you a very enjoyable and full flavoured drink.
Couple of ice cubes and a squeeze of lime and you have a long drink which would take some matching. This post may contain affiliate links.

The rum is all purchased in cask and then set aside for maturation. It is then bottled one cask at a time and ready for pouring.
Here-in lies the key to Mezan. These are genuinely unique rums. Best Price. Signup to rate this rum! Sort by: Popularity Date Rating. Posted 7 months ago by Declan from United States with 2 ratings.
This rum is pretty good but not an every day supper for me. I definitely have to be in the mood for this one. It has a strong nose of banana, nuttiness, floral, and a slight hint of vanilla.
A sophisticated rum drinker may like this but a traditional whiskey drinker would not. Overall a good funky rum for when you are in the mood for something different.

The Jamaican XO is the only rum that's currently permanently in their portfolio others are single years vintages. It's a blend of selected casks from different Jamaican distilleries aged between 4 and 23 years and reaged after blending until deemed ready for bottling.
Mezan do not put an age statement on their rums and rightly so. It's about creating a consistent flavor profile year in year out, in order to achieve this the actual age fluctuates.
I wish more rums would abandon age statements, seeing as they are often misleading and little more than a marketing thing. Taste is what matters, not numbers.
And this is tasty! Smelly too. Lots of overripe banana, as can be expected from a Jamaican pot still rum.
